CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Parkridge Medical Center cut the ribbon Friday on a three-story patient tower, a $99 million addition that gives the McCallie Avenue hospital 50 more rooms as demand for care climbs across the Chattanooga region.

The building covers 88,000 square feet. Sixteen of its rooms are set aside for intensive care, and the other 34 serve medical-surgical patients in orthopedics and spine care.

Guests at the opening walked the new floors and stepped out into a courtyard where a violinist played. The courtyard links the addition with the older hospital and has a stone path and a water feature.

Plans shared ahead of the Friday grand opening listed a main lobby and an open courtyard among the features, and staff marked the finished tower with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

On the ground floor, visitors will find a large new main lobby, plus rooms set up for meetings and staff education.

The ceremony took place at the new main tower entrance at 2333 McCallie Avenue, the hospital campus address.

Hospital leaders framed the project as a way to keep pace with a fast-growing community. Chris Cosby, president and CEO of Parkridge Health System, said the tower is part of an ongoing commitment to invest in people, buildings and resources so local patients can get care close to home.

State Sen. Bo Watson was among those at the ribbon cutting and thanked the people who helped bring the addition to life.

Parkridge Medical Center belongs to HCA Healthcare. Hospital officials said the added space is meant to improve conditions for patients as well as the staff who care for them.
