School Community Mourns the Loss of Respected Local Educator and Family Members

In the quaint town of Oakland, Tennessee, the community is coming together in sorrow as they mourn the passing of Gail Umbreit Moore, a beloved educator and family matriarch. Gail, who was 75 years old, took her final breath on December 30, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett, marking a significant loss for both her family and the local community.

A Life of Service and Joy

Gail was born on October 3, 1949, in Wilmington, Delaware. She was the cherished daughter of Dale and Bonnie Umbreit. As a proud graduate of Jenkins High School in Savannah, Georgia, she furthered her education at Covenant College in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It was there that she honed not only her academic skills but also her passion for education, which she later dedicated to her students and the community.

Married to William Lamar Moore on June 25, 1971, Gail and William spent an incredible 53 years together, creating a life full of cherished memories and laughter. Together, they raised their daughter, Bonnie, who is now mourning the loss of her beloved mother alongside her husband, Nick, and their two children, Billy and Ruthie Bingenheimer.

A Heartfelt Community Connection

Gail was an active member of Christ Presbyterian Church in nearby Somerville, where she led a Women’s Bible Study group. Known for her infectious laughter and genuine love for people, she had a knack for connecting with others. Whether it was through sharing stories or simply people-watching with family and friends, Gail’s presence was a source of warmth and joy in the lives of many.

Sadly, Gail’s life was tinged with tragedy as she faced the passing of her son, Nathan Moore, just a few short years prior. Nathan, who left this world at the young age of 43 on February 2, 2020, was remembered for his vibrant spirit and deep love for music. His passing was a significant heartache not only for Gail but for the entire family and community.

A Legacy of Strength

Gail is survived by her devoted husband William, her daughter Bonnie, and her beloved grandchildren. She also leaves behind fond memories of her late son Nathan and her brother Timothy Umbreit, who predeceased her. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be directed towards the Christ Presbyterian Church Building Fund, allowing Gail’s love for her church community to continue to thrive.

Memorial Services

A memorial service for Gail Moore is scheduled for 4 P.M. on January 4, 2025, at Christ Presbyterian Church in Somerville. Community members are encouraged to attend and join in celebrating the extraordinary life she led. Her laughter, generosity, and kindness will undoubtedly be remembered and cherished.
