Chattanooga Mourns the Loss of Myrtice “Pat” “Nana” Whittle Herod

Chattanooga is grieving the loss of a beloved local figure, Myrtice “Pat” “Nana” Whittle Herod, who passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the remarkable age of 96. A native of nearby Ooltewah, Tennessee, Pat was a cherished member of her community, known for her exceptional craftsmanship and the immense love she held for her family.

A Life Rich in Craftsmanship

For more than two decades, Pat dedicated her professional life to the Little Debbie Cookie Store, where she became a familiar face not just to her coworkers, but also to countless customers who enjoyed the treats she helped create. While she spent years working in the snack industry, Pat’s true passion came to life through her artisan crochet work. Over her extensive lifetime, she crafted numerous throws and baby blankets, each stitched with love and care, contributing warmth not only in the form of cozy blankets but also through the heartfelt intentions woven into each piece.

Deep Family Roots

Pat was not only a talented artisan but also a devoted member of the Ooltewah Seventh-day Adventist Church. Her faith played a significant role in her life and shaped her caring nature. Although she is survived by many, Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Martin Herod, whom she cherished deeply. She also lost her parents, Delmar and Nancy Ann Curtis Whittle, but her legacy continues through her family.

Cherished Family Connections

Pat leaves behind her daughter, Anita Sherlin, who worked alongside her son-in-law, Stephen Sherlin, to keep the family strong. Her granddaughter, Cyndi Dodson, and her husband, Chris Dodson, are also part of the loving family she adored. Many will remember her also for her three great-granddaughters: Taylor, McKenzie, and Reagan Dodson. These young ladies were often told they were the “love of her life,” illustrating just how much family meant to Pat.

Final Farewell

As the community comes together to honor Pat’s memory, a graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Chattanooga National Cemetery to celebrate her remarkable life and legacy. The service will be officiated by Pastor Dwight Herod, ensuring that her connection to both faith and family is honored.

In Lieu of Flowers

In a heartfelt request, Pat’s family asks that, rather than sending flowers, donations be made to Sacred Ground Hospice House, located at 1120 Dry Gap Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918, or to the Interfaith Health Center, located at 315 Gill Ave., Knoxville, TN 37917, in her memory. This generous act continues Pat’s legacy of love and caring by supporting the community she held dear.

Friends and family are encouraged to visit an online obituary that has been set up at www.heritagechattanooga.com to share tributes and memories of Pat; a testament to the impact she made throughout her lifetime.
