Flippo was a Soddy Daisy High School graduate from the class of 1950, recognized for his exceptional skill as a basketball player. He dedicated 34 years of his career to Dupont before retiring. Active in his faith, Flippo was a member of Soddy Daisy First Baptist Church.

Flippo leaves behind his daughter, Billie Shirlene Rea; son, Tracy Alan Flippo (Sherri); three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; step-son Mick Rea (Jennifer); and two step-great-grandsons. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on October 1, 2024, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., with the service beginning at 2 p.m. Following the service, Flippo will be laid to rest at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
