Her death marks the loss of a devoted mother, grandmother, and community leader whose life was dedicated to her family and service to others.
Charlotte’s legacy is deeply rooted in her family life. She was a loving mother to Johnny (Donnell) Howard, David (Wendy) Howard, and Misty Howard Roberts. She took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to Andrew (Shelley), Michael (Bethany), Zack (Madison), Allyssa (Kevin), Noah (Megan), Brayden, and Sawyer. Her joy extended to her great-grandchildren, Camden, Carter, John David, Ryker, Kolton, and Callahan. Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Howard, her parents, and her beloved dog Charlie, who was her companion for 17 years.
Charlotte Howard was an active and influential member of her community. She was a faithful congregant of Melville Baptist Church and dedicated well over 30 years of her life to the Tennessee Valley Authority, where she made significant contributions throughout her career. In addition, she held the esteemed position of past president of the Chattanooga Junior Club and was heavily involved in various civic organizations that focused on community betterment.
Charlotte’s childhood as the daughter of Master Sergeant Thomas Hartline provided her with unique experiences, having lived on multiple military bases across the United States and in Germany. This upbringing cultivated her love for travel and adventure, which she shared with her family during memorable cruises and beach trips. Charlotte’s dedication to family activities was evident as she often supported her children and grandchildren at games and events at Middle Valley Recreation and Red Bank High School. As a proud coach’s wife, she was a prominent cheerleader for her family’s activities and successes.
In addition to her immediate family, Charlotte leaves behind cherished cousins, Freddie Jean Godsmark and Carolyn Heaton, who were like sisters to her, along with close friends including Shelby Taylor, Jackie Clayton, and Kathy Stennson. Many others from the community who knew her are also mourning her loss, highlighting the profound impact she had on those around her.
The family is grateful for the compassionate care provided by Hospice of Chattanooga and Kim’s Caretaker Service during Charlotte’s final days. Friends and community members will have the opportunity to pay their respects at a visitation from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Complete funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
