Police vehicles responding to a high-speed chase in Chattanooga

News Summary

Chattanooga authorities released dashcam footage showing a high-speed chase involving Scott Gooden, a 36-year-old man from Murfreesboro. The pursuit followed reports of Gooden’s outstanding warrants. After a series of reckless driving maneuvers, law enforcement successfully executed a PIT maneuver, leading to his arrest after he fled on foot. Gooden resisted police commands, prompting officers to deploy a taser. The incident raises concerns about public safety in the area, especially involving armed individuals.

Chattanooga – Hamilton County authorities have released dashcam footage that documents a high-speed chase, subsequent crash, and the arrest of a 36-year-old Murfreesboro man named Scott Gooden. The incident unfolded on Thursday when law enforcement responded to a report of an armed and dangerous individual believed to be traveling through the area on his way to Nashville.

The chase began when deputies from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and Chattanooga Police spotted Gooden’s vehicle, a white Chrysler Pacifica, just after 1:35 p.m. Initial reports indicated that Gooden had outstanding warrants from Rutherford County. Law enforcement pursued the vehicle, leading to a series of reckless driving maneuvers.

During the chase, deputies successfully executed a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT), which involved forcing Gooden’s vehicle off the road in front of the Navy Operational Support Center located on Amnicola Highway. Following the crash, Gooden attempted to evade capture by fleeing on foot. He jumped over a fence and entered restricted federal property at the Chattanooga Navy Operations Center, where he was observed trying to pull on doors and kick windows in a failed attempt to enter the facility.

Upon their arrival, officers instructed Gooden to comply, but he refused to follow police commands. This resistance prompted law enforcement to deploy a taser, allowing them to subdue him and ultimately affect the arrest.

In a surprising development, the McKamey Animal Center was able to recover several animals from Gooden’s vehicle. The details regarding the types and number of animals remain unclear, but they have been removed for evaluation and care following the chaotic series of events.

Gooden has a criminal history and faces multiple warrants out of Murfreesboro, highlighting a pattern of previous legal issues. Following his arrest, he was taken to the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center, where authorities confirmed that additional charges connected to this incident will be forthcoming.

As of now, Gooden is scheduled to appear in court on June 10th. The investigation into the matter continues as authorities review the incident and the impact on public safety. Gooden’s vehicle showed visible damage, particularly to the rear, as a result of the chase and confrontation with law enforcement.

The release of the dashcam footage aims to provide transparency regarding the incident and to inform the public about the dangerous activities that led to the high-speed pursuit. Local residents and authorities continue to express concerns about safety, particularly in cases involving armed individuals in close proximity to civilian areas. Further updates on the case and any forthcoming charges against Gooden will be closely monitored by law enforcement and the community alike.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing criminal activity and ensuring the safety of residents in the area.
