Chattanooga – A recent prostitution sting conducted by the Chattanooga Police Department (CPD) in collaboration with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) resulted in multiple arrests and the alarming discovery of a 13-year-old girl, along with illegal drugs. The operation took place on a Friday evening and demonstrated the ongoing challenges of human trafficking and drug-related crimes in the area.

The investigation commenced around 5:30 p.m. when a CPD investigator identified a suspicious advertisement offering sexual favors on an adult escort website. The ad featured a phone number with a 423 area code, leading the investigator to arrange a meeting with a woman later identified as Khadijah Fleming, aged 31.

Fleming provided an address located in the 4000 block of Clio Avenue for the rendezvous. Notably, this address had previously attracted police attention the same evening due to a weapon law violation. As the clock struck approximately 9 p.m., the investigator reached out to Fleming at the specified location, confirming the prearranged agreement. During the communication, Fleming revealed that there were others present in the home, including a child.

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officials used a predetermined code word to signal the operation’s initiation. The search of the residence led to the apprehension of two adults: Brandon Moates, 27 years old, and a 37-year-old woman, alongside the 13-year-old girl. This discovery raised significant concerns regarding the welfare of the minor who was found in a potentially hazardous environment.

While investigating further, police entered Moates’ bedroom where they uncovered an array of drugs, including methamphetamine, fentanyl, and marijuana, in addition to drug paraphernalia and a firearm. The 37-year-old woman present claimed that she was the tenant of the home and described Fleming and Moates as friends who occasionally stayed with her.

Fleming presented herself under a false name, “Bell,” and provided an incorrect date of birth to the authorities. During the investigation, law enforcement soon discovered that she also had an outstanding warrant for theft from Hamilton County. Consequently, both Fleming and Moates faced several charges, including prostitution and criminal impersonation.

The apprehending of these individuals and the identification of the 13-year-old girl highlight critical concerns surrounding the safety of minors and the prevalence of drug abuse and trafficking within Chattanooga. The operation underscores the importance of ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to combat these issues, emphasizing the necessity of continued vigilance and community engagement to protect vulnerable populations.

In light of these events, Chattanooga officials are advocating for heightened awareness of human trafficking and expanded resources for those potentially entangled in its grasp, especially minors. Stakeholders are encouraged to remain informed and engaged in prevention efforts to eliminate such criminal activities in the community.

This operation serves as a grim reminder of the complex nature of criminal activities, often overlapping in their implications for public safety and health concerns. As law enforcement agencies continue to respond to these pressing issues, the focus will remain on the well-being of community members, particularly the most vulnerable.
