Chattanooga Launches Free Tree ReLeaf Program and Expands Tree Planting Initiatives

The City of Chattanooga is set to launch a new Free Tree ReLeaf program in collaboration with EPB Energy Pros and Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center, aimed at enhancing the city’s green spaces. The program will allow all EPB customers and residents of Chattanooga to take home two free native trees.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Reflection Riding’s Native Plant Nursery, located at 400 Garden Road, Chattanooga, TN. The nursery is open Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, operating while supplies last. Up for grabs this fall are eight varieties of native trees:

  • Carolina Silverbell (Halesia carolina)
  • Pawpaw (Asimina triloba)
  • Persimmon (Diospyros virginiana)
  • Redbud (Cercis canadensis)
  • Spicebush (Lindera benzoin)
  • Sweetbay Magnolia (Magnolia virginiana)
  • White Oak (Quercus alba)
  • Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana)

It is important to note that trees cannot be reserved in advance of the event, and the nursery will close for the season on December 14, 2025.

In addition to the Free Tree ReLeaf program, Chattanooga is also launching the Chattanooga Tree Project, which focuses on increasing the city’s tree canopy. This ambitious initiative aims to plant thousands of trees throughout neighborhoods over the next five years. By 2028, the city could see an increase of almost 5,000 trees, supported by a $6 million grant from the U.S..

The goals of the Chattanooga Tree Project extend beyond mere tree planting; it seeks to create job opportunities, establish greener spaces, and foster community involvement in the care and planting of trees. Residents interested in following the project’s progress can do so via the Tree Planting Dashboard, which is available on the city’s official website.

The Free Tree ReLeaf event and the Chattanooga Tree Project are integral components of a broader initiative aimed at enhancing the city’s tree culture. This initiative promotes the sustainability and health of urban ecosystems, contributing not only to environmental benefits but also to the beautification of city landscapes.
