A Life of Service and Love

Lewis Shipley was not just a name; he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country, which filled him with a profound sense of purpose and dedication. After his military service, he joined the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), contributing to the community he loved through his hard work and determination.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Lewis was deeply involved in his church community as a member of Woodland Park Baptist Church. His faith was a guiding light in his life, shaping his values and his relationships with those around him.

Family Man and Community Contributor

Lewis is survived by a loving family that includes four daughters—Debbie, Joy, Jennifer, and Rebecca—and one son, Patrick Lee. He was also blessed with a brother, Perry Wayne Shipley, and a sister-in-law, Linda Campbell. It’s clear that family was everything to Lewis, and he took immense pride in being a devoted father and the cherished “Pepaw” to his grandchildren.

His family blossomed under his guidance, with nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom carry on his legacy. Whether it was sharing stories, playing games, or simply being a shoulder to lean on, Lewis embraced his role as a grandfather with open arms and an open heart.

A Passion for Crafts and Sports

Lewis Shipley wasn’t just a family man; he had hobbies that showcased his creativity and love for life. Known as an avid quilter, his tactile talents brought beauty and warmth to his family through lovingly crafted quilts. Quilting was more than a pastime for Lewis; it was a way to express his love and connect with his family through generations of stitched memories.

In addition to his crafting abilities, he found joy in sports, particularly as a big fan of NASCAR, where the thrilling races and camaraderie with fellow enthusiasts brought him delight. He also enjoyed hitting the golf course whenever he could, developing friendships and enjoying the outdoors on sunny days.

Remembering a Gentle Soul

Lewis was preceded in death by many loved ones, including his wife, Erma Henry Shipley, and daughter, Sandy Shipley. It is in the rich tapestry of life that he leaves behind a true legacy as everyone remembers him not just for his accomplishments but for the warmth in his heart.

The community gathered in remembrance and celebration of his life as family and friends prepare for his funeral service, scheduled for 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the funeral home chapel. Brother Jim Barkley will officiate the service, and attendees are invited to pay their respects from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the ceremony.

Following the service, Lewis will be interred at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, a peaceful resting place for a man who truly embodied kindness and decency.
