Chattanooga Launches Make Music Fund to Support Local Artists for 2025 Celebration

Chattanooga has introduced the Make Music Chattanooga Fund, a new initiative aimed at providing support to local music performers and educators as part of this year’s Make Music Day celebration. The fund is designed to offer stipends for hosting free public music events and will play a vital role in enhancing the city’s music culture.

This fund will specifically support live performances and participatory music activities scheduled for Friday, June 21, 2025. Activities are set to take place at various venues and public spaces throughout Chattanooga, encouraging community involvement and musical engagement. Eligible participants have the opportunity to apply for additional funding through the Music Performance Trust Fund (MPTF), which is coordinated nationally by the Make Music Alliance and locally through a partnership with Make Music Chattanooga and the Tri-State Musicians’ Union, Local 80.

To qualify for funding from the Make Music Chattanooga Fund, performers and educators need to register their performances with Make Music Chattanooga, ensuring that all activities are open to the public and free of charge. Applications for the fund will remain open until June 6, 2025. Interested artists and educators can register and submit their applications at makemusicday.org/chattanooga.

This initiative stems from the collaborative efforts of the Lyndhurst Foundation and ArtsBuild, emphasizing a strong commitment to nurturing the local music scene. Nathan Shew, President of the Tri-State Musicians’ Union, Local 80, has noted that the availability of such funding opportunities will help to increase the presence of professional live music within the community.

Make Music Day is celebrated globally on June 21 each year, inviting musicians of all ages and skill levels to participate in citywide festivities. The event is not only a showcase of local talent but also a platform for engagement and creativity, characterized by inclusivity and accessibility for all participants. Last year, Chattanooga’s event featured an impressive 100 performances at 44 locations, marking it as the largest Make Music Day celebration in the state of Tennessee.

Chattanooga’s Make Music Day is supported by multiple organizations, including the Chattanooga Tourism Co. and the City of Chattanooga, highlighting the shared commitment to fostering a vibrant music community. A community meeting to kick off the upcoming festivities is scheduled for March 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM via Zoom, encouraging local artists and stakeholders to connect and collaborate on the event.

All community members and partners are urged to disseminate this announcement to promote awareness and encourage participation in the Make Music Day celebrations. With the launch of the Make Music Chattanooga Fund, the city aims to create an enriching experience for all music lovers and performance artists, further solidifying Chattanooga’s role as a hub for creativity and musical expression.
