Marion Elaine Liendecker, a beloved figure in the Hixson community, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, at the age of 96. Her death marks the loss of a remarkable woman known for her contributions to music, as well as for her unwavering kindness and dedication to family.
Born on August 23, 1928, in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, Marion spent her early years in Houston, Minnesota, before marrying Edgar M. (Eddie) Liendecker on February 14, 1953. The couple first crossed paths at the Empire State Building in New York City, where they both worked, beginning a love story that would last nearly half a century until Eddie’s passing in 2000.
Marion and Eddie’s shared passion for music led them to travel across the country to attend barbershop quartet conventions. In 1971, they settled in Hixson, Tennessee, where they became integral members of the community. Marion also frequently visited her hometowns of Houston, Minnesota, and Lyons Falls, New York, maintaining strong connections with her roots.
Marion was not only a devoted wife and mother but also a talented pianist and singer. Her love for music manifested in her lifelong involvement with church choirs. Most recently, she served at Middle Valley Baptist Church in Hixson, where she played the piano for a Wednesday morning Senior Adult Bible Study, showcasing her passion for worship and community engagement.
Marion was known affectionately by her grandchildren as Eema, a term that reflects her close-knit family ties. She is survived by her children: Jan Liendecker (Bruce), Karen Baltzell (David), and Randy Liendecker (Sharon), as well as her grandchildren including Claire Baltzell Defee (Tiffany), Jason Broomhall, Kristina Tucker (Charles), and Kevin Liendecker (Nicole). Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren: Blake Bridgman, Stella Tucker, and Ava and Teegan Liendecker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvena and Edwin Wilcox, her husband Eddie, and her son Eric Liendecker. Marion was the last surviving sibling of nine, with a family that included brothers Robert (Bernice) and Paul (Elsie) Wilcox, and sisters Jean (James) Graves, Ruth (Jay) Summers, Helen (Arthur) Houge, Margery (John) Hanson, Shirley (Beryl) Lee, and Patricia (Roger) Wahl.
Marion’s legacy will be remembered by all who knew her. Her kindness, musical talent, and unwavering faith made a lasting impact on her friends and family alike.
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, June 16, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Matt Lotspeich and Dr. Robert Mounts. After the ceremony, Marion will be interred with military honors at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
