Life and Legacy
Mary was born on August 19, 1929, in Whiteside, Tennessee, to Charles and Clara Ford. She grew up in a close-knit family, ultimately reaching the milestone of graduating from Marion County High School in 1947. Throughout her life, she was known for her enthusiasm for flowers, actively participating in multiple garden clubs, and sharing her horticultural creativity with others.
In addition to her love for gardening, Mary was an avid swimmer, participating in the activity throughout her extensive life. Her legacy is one filled with love for her family and her community, as she previously managed the East Ridge Town Hall Recreation Room, where she cultivated friendships and created lasting memories.
Family Connections
Mary is remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, KD Parker, Jr., her son, Buddy Parker, as well as her parents and eight siblings. She is survived by her two sons, Mike Parker (Karen) and Sam Parker (Shellie), along with a large extended family which includes her grandchildren: David Parker (Cheryl), Sarah Harris (Evan), Marianna Ryan (Keith), Elijah Parker (Kristie), Valerie Vanveldhuizen, Kirk Parker (Amanda), and Christian Parker (Taylor). Additionally, Mary leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Final Farewell
For those wishing to pay their respects, the family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 24, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service to celebrate Mary’s remarkable life will take place at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions in Mary’s memory to be directed toward St. Jude Children’s Hospital, reflecting her caring nature and commitment to helping others.
Appreciation for Care
The family expresses their gratitude to the staff at American House on Gunbarrel Rd, as well as the team at Hearth Hospice, for their compassionate care of Mary during her later years. Their support allowed her to live with dignity and comfort, surrounded by the love of family.
