From January 12 through January 20, there are plenty of ways for you and your family to get involved, learn more about King’s dream, and make a difference in our community.
A Week Full of Events!
Let’s dive right into the celebrations! Kicking things off on January 12, you can join a fascinating virtual presentation at 6 p.m. hosted by Jecorey Arthur. He will explore the crucial topic of “Housing Justice and Anti-Displacement in Marginalized Communities.” We could all benefit from learning about the challenges faced by different communities, so be sure to tune in!
On January 13, don’t miss the “Stand for Public Schools (No to School Vouchers!) Day of Action.” This event will be held at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center at 6 p.m., aimed at advocating for equitable education for all.
The following night, January 15, the event titled “We Must Unite to Save Our Youth!” encourages proactive discussions about our young people and their futures. This informative gathering begins at 7 p.m. at Community Haven—don’t miss out on being part of the conversation!

The morning of January 17 promises to be a wonderful experience at the 55th annual prayer breakfast, taking place at 9 a.m. at Greater Tucker Missionary Baptist Church. Then on January 18, shake things up at the Gospel Music Extravaganza starting at 4 p.m. at Olivet Nation. What a perfect way to celebrate through music and unity!

First off, the City of Chattanooga is hosting a volunteer day of service starting with a virtual kickoff at 8:30 a.m. The perfect opportunity to give back to the community, it will have volunteers working on various service projects from 9 a.m. until noon before joining in the MLK Day parade at 1 p.m. Get ready to feel inspired!
Parades and Art Activities!
On January 20, there are tons of activities planned throughout the day. Don’t miss out on tree planting organized by Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors at Southside Community Park at 9 a.m. Over at the Chattanoogan Hotel, the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga will host a youth leadership symposium at 10 a.m., perfect for inspiring the next generation of leaders.
The fun continues with free admission and art activities at the Hunter Museum of American Art from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Creative Discovery Museum is hosting a Dreamer’s Day with exciting activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This will be a great celebration of King’s impact on our lives.
Finally, don’t miss the 55th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade kicking off at 1 p.m. at Miller Park!
