Soddy Daisy, Tennessee – Community Mourns the Passing of Dexter Timothy “Tim” West

Dexter Timothy “Tim” West, 75, passed away peacefully at home on April 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. A longtime firefighter and dedicated family man, West’s contributions to his community, profession, and family will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Tim West was a devoted husband to his wife of 51 years, Debi West, and a cherished father and grandfather. He is survived by his son Jason (Loren) West, daughter Jennifer (Mike) Booth, and six grandchildren: Belen, Matias, Nicolas, Benjamin, Chase, and Gavin. He also leaves behind a brother, Joe (Nancy) West, as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss him deeply. West was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph William West and Mabel Olavene Tate West, and his brother, Philip West.

A valued member of the Grace Pointe Assembly of God, West dedicated his life to serving others, both in his professional career and personal life. He retired from the Chattanooga Fire Department, where he was proud to serve as a firefighter. In addition to his firefighting career, he also worked as an emergency medical technician at Memorial Hospital, providing critical care to those in need.

West served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam conflict, showcasing his commitment to service and community. In his later years, he enjoyed being an usher at local sporting events, including Chattanooga Lookouts baseball games and UTC basketball games. His warm heart and generous spirit made him beloved by many.

Tim West will be remembered for his love of cooking, cherished family gatherings, and fondness for war movies. He believed in the importance of family and community, often finding joy in spending quality time with loved ones and friends.

In appreciation for the support and care he received, the family wishes to express their gratitude to caregiver Dolencia, along with the dedicated staff and physicians at Hearth Hospice, who provided compassionate care during West’s final days.

A memorial service to celebrate Tim West’s life will take place at Grace Pointe Assembly of God on Saturday, May 3, at 11:30 a.m. Friends and family are invited to gather at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service to pay their respects. Funeral arrangements are managed by Legacy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, located at 8911 Dallas Hollow Road, Soddy-Daisy, TN.

The community of Soddy Daisy and beyond will remember Tim West as a person who made a difference in the lives of many, embodying the spirit of service and love for his family. His legacy will continue through the memories he created and the lives he touched.
