UTC collaborates with Volkswagen for annual career day

Chattanooga, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) kicked off their first-ever Volkswagen Drive Your Career Day this week, an event aimed to provide students with practical career guidance and internship opportunities.

Opening Doors to a Bright Future

Thursday morning at the Chattanooga Room on the UTC campus, prospective engineering students rubbed shoulders with industry professionals. Organized by UTC in collaboration with Volkswagen (VW), the event’s objective was to equip future engineers with crucial insights into career opportunities in the automotive industry, specifically at Volkswagen.

As they place notable emphasis on the value of professionals sharing their industry experiences with students, the event also provided an unmissable chance for students to gain firsthand insights into life at VW.

An Insider’s Perspective: Volkswagen’s Offerings

Chris Glover, CEO and President of Volkswagen, Chattanooga, emphasized the fruitful cooperation between UTC and VW. He discussed the initiative’s focus on opening students’ eyes to the possibilities that could arise from a career with the global automotive giant.

Glover, a product of an international career at VW himself, shared, “The first thing is to reach out to students and actually give them an understanding of what Volkswagen can offer.” He also conveyed his experiences at Volkswagen,

highlighting the diverse and dynamic work environment, the company’s commitment to innovation, and its efforts in sustainable automotive development. This dialogue aimed to inspire students by showcasing the breadth of career paths available within the automotive sector and at Volkswagen specifically.

The Drive Your Career Day event featured workshops, panel discussions, and networking sessions, allowing students to engage directly with Volkswagen engineers and executives. These interactions were designed to give students a comprehensive overview of what working in the automotive industry entails, including the challenges and rewards it presents.

In addition to career insights, Volkswagen presented information on internships and cooperative education programs available to UTC students. These programs are crucial stepping stones, offering practical experience and the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting. Through such initiatives, Volkswagen aims to attract talented individuals who can contribute to the company’s future innovations.

The event underscores the importance of industry-academic partnerships in preparing students for their careers. By providing access to experienced professionals and opportunities for hands-on learning, UTC and Volkswagen are helping to shape the next generation of engineers. This collaboration not only benefits students but also the automotive industry, by ensuring a continuous influx of skilled and motivated professionals ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.
