Cabrera, Veronica Soriano: A Legacy of Passion for Nursing Education

Chattanooga, TN

Thursday, February 29, 2024 – The healthcare and education community of Chattanooga mourns the loss of Mrs. Veronica Soriano Cabrera, 84, of Ooltewah, TN. A distinguished and respected figure in the medical academic scene, Mrs. Cabrera breathed her last on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Born on April 29, 1939, in Narvacan Ilocos Sur, Philippines, Mrs. Cabrera was the daughter of the late Dionisio Soriano and Martina Cabero. With a career that spanned several decades, she made significant contributions to both the field of nursing and education. She held the esteemed positions of a retired Nursing Professor at Indiana University and Associate Professor of Nursing at Marian College in Indianapolis, IN.

Remembering Veronica Soriano Cabrera

Mrs. Cabrera’s dedication to her professional and religious life was apparent in her active participation in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and choir in Cocoa, FL. However, more than that, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her husband, Dominador Cabrera, had predeceased her.

Surviving her are her children Irene (Marco) Salenda of Chattanooga; Rene (Kelly) Cabrera of Springfield, Il.; and Edgardo (Julia) Cabrera of Batavia, Il. Also mourning her loss is her sister, Erlinda Soriano West of Markham Ontario Canada; grandchildren Carlo Salenda, Caleb Salenda, Scott Cabrera, and Elena Cabrera; along with nephews Ronald (Giang) West and Alan (Ramona) West; great-nieces Madison, Ashleigh, Tiffany, Ayanna West; and great-nephew, Aidan West.

Final Farewell to Veronica Soriano Cabrera

Family and friends will gather to pay their final respects to Mrs. Cabrera. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, March 5, from 10-11 a.m. (EST) at St. Stephen Catholic Church (7111 Lee Hwy., Chattanooga, Tn. 37421). The funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. (EST), with Father Manuel Perez officiating.

Further, a memorial gathering is planned on Saturday, March 9, from 9-10 a.m. (CST) at Blake-Lamb Funeral (5015 Lincoln Ave., Lisle, Il. 60532). Mrs. Cabrera will be laid to rest at Assumption Catholic Cemetery (1 S. 501 Winfield Rd., Wheaton, Il. 60189) on Saturday, March 9, at
