CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A packed weekend of races and festivals in Chattanooga means a long list of closed and restricted streets from Friday morning into Sunday afternoon, according to the city.
Friday: Riverfront Parkway shuts between Power Alley and Chestnut Street at 11 a.m. for the Chattajack 31 paddle race and stays closed until 10 p.m. Saturday. Big rigs are barred between West MLK Boulevard and Power Alley and need to detour on MLK and Chestnut.
Saturday: Downtown blocks around the IBMA World of Bluegrass are off-limits from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., covering Cherry Street from West 8th to East MLK, MLK from Market to Georgia Avenue, Georgia Avenue from MLK to East 10th, and East 10th from Market to Georgia. No parking is allowed on those blocks. Across the river, Frazier Avenue from Market to Delmont is closed for the Fall Frazier Festival between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., with no through traffic between Market and Barton Avenue; drivers are sent around by way of 4th Street on the south side. Magnolia Street between East 10th and 11th closes from 5 to 11 p.m.
Sunday: The Seven Bridges Marathon brings full and partial closures downtown and along the river from 4 a.m. until roughly 2 p.m. Runners in the full marathon line up in front of the Chattanooga Theatre Center, on the stretch of Tremont Street known as Leslie Allen Jordan Way, and head out at 7 a.m. Police will hold intersections and let cars cross between waves of runners, and each street reopens as soon as the last runners pass. Reggie White Boulevard closes from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the Chattanooga Market, and Lincoln Park Lane closes from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. for a Negro League all-star tribute at Historic Lincoln Park.
