Chattanooga Golf Course Reviews

Black Creek Club
Emmett R. • Jul 13, 2026
Played Black Creek Club as a member invite and the Bill Coore/Ben Crenshaw-adjacent design philosophy really shows — minimal earth movement, natural-feeling green complexes, and a routing that uses Aetna Mountain's terrain beautifully. Best conditioning I've seen on a course in this region all year.
Memorable Hole: Hole #11 — natural ridge fairway with a blind approach
Toughest Green: Hole #17 — firm and fast, run-off areas collect anything long
Best Food: Wood-fired flatbread on the clubhouse patio
Windstone Golf Club
Corinne A. • Jul 13, 2026
Played Windstone up in Ringgold, just across the state line but very much part of the Chattanooga golf scene — the mountain views from the elevated tees are the standout feature here. Layout has some real elevation drops that make club selection tricky. Fun change of pace from flatter courses in town.
Memorable Hole: Hole #9 — dramatic downhill par 3 with mountain views behind the green
Toughest Green: Hole #16 — small target green guarded by bunkers on both sides
Best Food: Turkey sandwich at the halfway stand
Brainerd Golf Course
Jasmine O. • Jul 13, 2026
Played Brainerd on a weekday morning — Chattanooga's classic city muni and it was busy but still fun. Fairways were a little shaggy from recent rain but the greens held true. Great price point if you just want to get in a casual round without breaking the bank.
Memorable Hole: Hole #6 — short par 4 that rewards an aggressive tee shot
Toughest Green: Hole #12 — flat but fast after the morning roll
Best Food: Hot dog and a Coke at the pro shop window
Council Fire Golf Club
Preston Y. • Jul 13, 2026
Played Council Fire as a member's guest and the parkland-style layout winds through mature hardwoods with the Tennessee River visible from a couple of holes. Greens were smooth and quick, and the clubhouse has an old-Chattanooga feel that a lot of newer clubs can't replicate. A relaxed, classic round.
Memorable Hole: Hole #4 — dogleg left through a corridor of oaks
Toughest Green: Hole #10 — subtly sloped, tougher than it looks from the fairway
Best Food: Fried catfish plate in the grill room

Hit Them Long...
Longest drive. Craziest shot. Hole in one. Brag about it.
Corbin
Harrison Bay's 18th finishes with water running the length of the fairway, demanding a committed tee shot to have any angle in. Drove it to the corner, then held a long iron onto the green that trickled down to four feet. Made the eagle putt to close the round. Nicklaus designed this closing hole to test nerve right to the very end.
Bear Trace at Harrison Bay -- Hole #18 — Nicklaus finishing par-4 along the water Eagle
GracieAnn
Windstone's 17th climbs a mountainside ridge with views stretching back toward the Tennessee River valley. Hit a solid draw to the corner, a wedge to seven feet, and made the putt. Ridge-top golf in Signal Mountain gives every round a little extra altitude, literally and otherwise.
Windstone Golf Club -- Hole #17 — mountainside par-4 Birdie
Winslow
Council Fire's 8th tracks the Tennessee River down the entire left side, tempting a go at the green in two. Drew a 3-wood just inside the water to fourteen feet, then poured in the eagle putt. A round along the river with Lookout Mountain in view is Chattanooga golf at its best.
Council Fire Golf Club -- Hole #8 — par-5 along the Tennessee River Eagle
Mix Them Strong...
Your favorite 19th hole. Where do you go after the round?
Corbin
Off Harrison Bay's closing eagle and drove to Chattanooga Brewing Company. Cherokee Red Ale on the patio, the Nicklaus finishing hole getting its due praise. An eagle to close the round always deserves a cold one to match.
Chattanooga Brewing Company -- Cherokee Red Ale
GracieAnn
Walked off Windstone and drove down the mountain to Heaven & Ale on the Southside. German lager in the biergarten, the ridge-top birdie still fresh in mind. Signal Mountain golf finishing in a Chattanooga biergarten makes for a good Saturday.
Heaven & Ale -- German lager
Winslow
Off Council Fire and into the Southside for Terminal Brewhouse. Cold pilsner on the rooftop, the river-hugging eagle putt getting bigger by the round. A round along the Tennessee River deserves a rooftop finish.

Chattanooga Golf FAQ

Common questions about golf in the Chattanooga area, answered.
  • The First Tee of Greater Southeast Tennessee also serves the region.

HEREChattanooga’s golf desk covers every course, every tournament, and every story shaping golf in Chattanooga, Hamilton County, and Southeast Tennessee. Chattanooga punches far above its weight in golf — The Honors Course in nearby Ooltewah (Pete Dye, 1983) is consistently ranked the #1 course in Tennessee by Golf Digest and has hosted the 1991 U.S. Amateur, 1994 Curtis Cup, and the 1996 and 2010 NCAA Championships (won in 1996 by Tiger Woods). Black Creek Club (Brian Silva, 2000) is a widely praised tribute to Seth Raynor’s Golden Age template holes. Coverage spans the private clubs (Honors, Black Creek, Chattanooga Golf & Country Club — a Donald Ross layout dating to the early 1920s — Council Fire, Lookout Mountain, Signal Mountain), the destination public options (Bear Trace at Harrison Bay, a Jack Nicklaus signature on Chickamauga Lake and part of the Tennessee Golf Trail; Sweetens Cove in South Pittsburg, a cult-favorite nine-holer), and the municipal rotation — Brainerd (a historic Ross muni), Moccasin Bend on the Tennessee River, Brown Acres, and Concord.

Tournament coverage tracks Tennessee Golf Association (TGA) championships hosted at regional venues, TSSAA high-school championships for Hamilton County programs, and the collegiate calendar — the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Mocs field varsity programs, and both Covenant College and Southern Adventist have active teams. The Honors Course’s amateur-golf mission continues to draw the highest-level college and USGA events to the region. Course-condition reports pull directly from the National Weather Service Morristown office when Southeast Tennessee severe weather, spring flooding on the Tennessee River, or Cumberland Plateau winter events affect play. HEREChattanooga also tracks club-pro hires, renovation news (including Gil Hanse’s ongoing work at The Honors Course), and the small-business sponsorships flowing into First Tee of Greater Chattanooga and junior programs across Hamilton County.
