History
The Brainerd Mission, established in 1817 by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, was one of the first schools for Cherokee children in the region. The site is preserved as a historic marker. The surrounding area developed as residential suburbs through the mid-20th century, with immigrant community growth accelerating from the 1990s onward.
