CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Drivers in Chattanooga will see firefighters holding out boots at busy corners later this week as the city’s fire crews raise money for families living with neuromuscular diseases.
Local 820 of the Chattanooga Fire Fighters Association is teaming with the city fire department on the yearly Fill-the-Boot drive for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. It starts Thursday, Oct. 29, and wraps up Saturday, Oct. 31, with crews collecting daily between 9 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon.
Firefighters will work nine locations, reaching neighborhoods from downtown and Highland Park to Gunbarrel, Lupton City, Hixson, Brainerd, Bonny Oaks, Lookout Valley and North Chattanooga.
Among the specific corners are the Walmart entrance on Cummings Highway in Lookout Valley, Brainerd Road at Greenway View Drive, Bonny Oaks Drive at Claude Ramsey Parkway, Hixson Pike at Cassandra Smith Road, and Cherokee Boulevard at Manufacturers Road in North Chattanooga.
No streets or intersections will close for the drive, but drivers should watch for firefighters near the curb at those locations.
Donations help pay for research aimed at new therapies and treatments, as well as care for families coping with these conditions. The fire department says every donation makes a difference for people and families affected by neuromuscular diseases.
The partnership reaches well beyond Chattanooga. Fire crews across the country have been raising money and awareness alongside the MDA for more than 70 years.
