CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Quinn Johnson scored both of the goals that mattered Thursday afternoon as the Chattanooga Mocs came from behind to beat ETSU 3-1 at Max Finley Stadium in Chattanooga and grab sole possession of third place in the Southern Conference.

The Buccaneers took the lead in the ninth minute. Reagan Fitzgerald finished off a pass from Natalie Capannelli to put ETSU up 1-0.

Chattanooga leveled it in the 22nd minute when Paige Thomas set up Johnson for the equalizer. Johnson then put the Mocs ahead to stay in the 64th minute, scoring her second of the day off a ball from Savannah Dunahay just outside the box.

The pair of goals pushed Johnson to nine for the season, while Fitzgerald’s opener was her eighth. Chattanooga kept pressing after the break, putting up seven shots and five corners in the second half alone as it protected the lead in what was also its final home match of the year.

An ETSU own goal in the 83rd minute closed the scoring. Thomas worked down the left side and fired toward Johnson, but a Buccaneers defender got in front and knocked it into the right side of her own net.

The Mocs had the better of play most of the day. They outshot ETSU 14-6, put nine shots on goal to two and earned seven corner kicks to one. ETSU keeper Addison Yelton made seven saves to keep it close, and Addie Taylor needed only one stop for Chattanooga.

The win moves Chattanooga to 9-3-5 overall and 5-2-2 in league play, jumping past ETSU, now 8-6-2 and 5-3-1, in the standings with the regular season nearly over.

Chattanooga wraps up the regular season Sunday at Mercer, with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
